Growing up in America, I have been blessed more than most. Our life wasn't always easy, and there were definitely times of struggle, but the book In Order To Live by Yeonmi Park has opened my eyes to just how fortunate my life has been.
This book gives a lot of unknown history of North and South Korea, and also details what life is like for people in that area.
Living in a socialist country is a nightmare that I wish more people understood. Escaping from a socialist country can be even more of a terror. The things that this young lady had to endure in order to gain her freedom is harrowing.
But I don't want to only focus on the physical journey.
The emotional and intellectual story is also one that will give you hope that no matter what your circumstances, if you are determined, you can come through to the other side. The injustices in life are many and are found in all parts of the world; but you do not have to let your current hardships define you.
Ms Park is very brave young lady, and if you will allow her story to it will make a difference in your view of not only your life, but also the conditions of the rest of the world. And it just might encourage you to do something that can give others hope.
