Sometimes the devil doesn't tempt us with evil; sometimes he allures us with good, distracts us with obligations, confuses us with compromise, or hinders us with business to keep us from that which is best- service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Remember, the devil always offers his best, before Christ will offer His will for your life.

The Wrath To Come book review

I really like history. I enjoy learning how people lived in the past. I like knowing how we got to where we are. In James L. Melton's book, The Wrath To Come, you will not only get some history, but also some prophesy.

Have you ever wondered about the universal monetary system that is talked about in Scriptures? How about the one world government that is mentioned in Revelation? Did you ever wonder if there was anything around today that could easily slip us into those global positions?

If you're curious, I highly recommend you check out this book. It shows how very subtly throughout different countries people have working for hundreds of years to slowly build the foundation that would be required to enable the one world system to rise to power.

The entire text of  THE WRATH TO COME is on his web site as a pdf available to download for free. This is the 65 page condensed version of his 2004 book, SATAN'S NEW WORLD ORDER

Hard copies can be ordered by following this link.

Dirty Genes book review

If you are searching for answers to some health problems or are seeking to live a healthier life, Dirty Genes by Ben Lynch is a wonderful book for anyone to read.

Genes can be “born dirty”, meaning that you have a genetic mutation, or merely “act dirty”, meaning that somewhere along the lines those genes weren't supplied with the raw materials they need to do their job properly. This can be a response from your body that is directly related to your environment, diet, or lifestyle choices, and it can manifest in many different side effects or illnesses.

Most people have heard of the MTHFR genetic mutation, but there are literally hundreds or thousands of different mutations that each and every person has. Dirty Genes goes through seven of the most common and describes the problems they can cause and how they interact with each other.

Then he tells you how you can "clean up" your diet and lifestyle to help your body as it works with your "born dirty" genes as well as how you can support your "acting dirty" genes. Not only that, but he also gives you some great guidance on different nutritional or digestion problems you may be experiencing.

So, if you've been searching for answers, or you simply want to make wise choices for the sake of your health, I highly recommend this book!

Mama Bear Apologetics book review

When we have our babies, something lights inside us that drives us to protect and nurture them. We make certain that all of their physical needs are taken care of. As they age, we tackle their educational needs- first numbers and colors, then the alphabet and reading, and so on. But what about their spiritual needs?

Many of us think that taking our kids to church and making sure they go to a christian school is enough. Plenty of us aim to ensure that our children accept Christ as their Savior so that we know their souls are bound for heaven. Sadly, many parents stop there. It's not until our children are grown and living in the world rejecting christian faith that we realize there was a greater need in this area.

Mama Bear Apologetics has you examining at this portion of your child's development. It's a book that encourages you to see where many christian children have been led astray and helps to open your eyes to all the different ways the world tries to sway their hearts.

I think any mother or father, for that matter, will benefit from reading and utilizing the information given in this book, especially if their children are getting a public school education.

For more information and resources, check out the author's webpage- Mama Bear Apologetics.

The Hormone Cure (book review)

I have just finished reading two books by Sara Gottfried. The first was The Hormone Cure and the second was The Hormone Reset Diet.

The first thing I noticed was that we aren't really told much about hormones or how they affect our daily lives. Most people think that Testosterone is the boy hormone and Estrogen and Progesterone are the girl hormones. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I have been having some hormone problems because I'm entering that lovely season of life known as perimenopause. This is where your once strategically functioning hormones start to malfunction. It's been happening for thousands of years as women near the next season of life known as menopause where the hormones basically drop to almost nothing.

After reading the first book, I was very interested in learning more about her diet that she recommends to help regulate your hormones. I'll admit the first book left me confused about which of my hormones were misfiring. Why? Because they kinda overlap and it's hard to nail down which one(s) are causing your symptoms.

I decided to read and try the reset diet (blog post to come) to see how I could help my hormones. I understand that a reset diet won't bring my body back to my 20's where my energy was amazing and my metabolism was the bomb! But, perhaps I could calm the tumult that was churning.

Whether you try the diet or not, I highly recommend both books. They give you a ton of good information for whatever stage of life you are in. And suggestions on natural ways to help if you are having any hormonal problems, are taking any form of birth control, or are just looking to calm the side effects of your fluctuating hormones.

Life Is Messy (book review)

I recently read a book called Life Is Messy by Matthew Kelly and I must say that I really recommend it! It is filled with some practical wisdom about life.

Not only is life messy, but it is also harsh and unpredictable. Throughout our lifetimes we will go through struggles and trials and even soul crushing disappointments and betrayals. It is during these moments that we learn some of the most important lessons we will ever attain.

Matthew Kelly has listed out much of the understanding that he has gained from going through such experiences. Some of these lessons you may have already learned, and others may have never crossed your mind before. But I believe that it is always best to learn through others than through personal experience.

Perhaps reading this book will save you some heartache by gaining a little wisdom through another's perspective instead of intimate participation.

In Order To Live book review

Growing up in America, I have been blessed more than most. Our life wasn't always easy, and there were definitely times of struggle, but the book In Order To Live by Yeonmi Park has opened my eyes to just how fortunate my life has been.

This book gives a lot of unknown history of North and South Korea, and also details what life is like for people in that area.

Living in a socialist country is a nightmare that I wish more people understood. Escaping from a socialist country can be even more of a terror. The things that this young lady had to endure in order to gain her freedom is harrowing.

But I don't want to only focus on the physical journey.

The emotional and intellectual story is also one that will give you hope that no matter what your circumstances, if you are determined, you can come through to the other side. The injustices in life are many and are found in all parts of the world; but you do not have to let your current hardships define you.

Ms Park is very brave young lady, and if you will allow her story to it will make a difference in your view of not only your life, but also the conditions of the rest of the world. And it just might encourage you to do something that can give others hope.

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause book review

Are some weird things happening as you age? I know they are, because they happen for everyone. We start getting moody over little things or sweating when it's not that hot out. People don't really talk about the changes that happen in the different stages of life after puberty.
I found Dr. Lee and Dr. Hanley's book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause, in the free bin at our local bookstore and I'm so thankful that I grabbed it!
I use to think I couldn't wait until I didn't have to worry about my period anymore, but I didn't realize how important my ovaries and uterus was. I was really shocked to hear about all the problems that could arise from having them removed.
I was also amazed at learning that the body can be restored to a nice balance that would make getting to and going through menopause as painless as possible.
If you are having problems with your female organs or your doctor has recommended having a partial or complete hysterectomy, I highly recommend this book. It goes over many female problems including PMS, adrenal fatigue, painful or cystic breasts, infertility, endometriosis, and more along with how to best work with your doctor or by yourself to bring your hormones into balance and gain relief.

Financial Peace Revisited book review

I have read Dave Ramsey's book Total Money Makeover before and I really enjoyed it. I liked the way he broke getting out of debt down into small easy to achieve steps- his baby steps. And, I was won over by the idea of an emergency fund! If I had known about that when first starting out things would have gone so much differently for us.
Thankfully, we have been trying to follow these principles and we are slowly getting out of debt. However, we have been in a financial strain before- repo on a vehicle, debt collectors calling, etc. And, I never knew how to handle them!
In his book Financial Peace Revisited, Dave goes into detail on how you deal with debt collectors. He even has some sample letters for you to copy and mail.
He's added in sections on your credit report and why it's important to check it regularly, as well as how you handle disputing an error.
There's also other really nice additions like how to opt out of those mailed prescreened offers.
If you have to choose between his two books, this is the one I recommend you choosing!

The Book That Changed The World movie review

The movie The Book That Changed The World came out in 2011.It was put together and published by a secular company, so it is pretty much historical and not really Christian in that sense.
However, I do recommend this movie to anyone. It is amazing to see what events had to happen for the King James Bible to come into existence. And, the opposition that was faced along with the sedition that brewed makes the translation that much more inspiring and divine!

Ordering Your Private World book review

Do you have inner peace? Are you driven to accomplish goals or reach your potential to the point that you ignore what it does to you physically, emotionally, and spiritually? Do you like who you've become as a person?
These are all questions that Gordon MacDonald has you spend time contemplating in his book, Ordering Your Private World.
I've never given much thought to the fact that a successful life on the outside can only be maintained by a successful life on the inside. When you loose control of the things that give you focus and inner strength, you will shortly find that the outside life starts to fall apart.
Anyone who is overly stressed out, or feeling that they will never reach their full potential (never be good enough), or just finds themselves wishing they could be someone else should read this book!

Angels, Giants, And Things Under The Earth book review

The Bible is a fascinating book if you care to study it. It says a lot about things we think of as myths or legends. By studying the things written in the Bible we can understand things that are happening around us.
Joseph Dulmage goes over some of these in his book Angels, Giants, And Things Under The Earth.
I found this to be a fascinating read! By comparing Scripture with Scripture I grew in my understanding of some of the "mysteries" talked about in God's Word. And, it encouraged me to study and learn more about what God had to say on these and other things in the Bible.

The Chronicles Of The Door Series book review

I've read the stories in the Bible many times and wondered what did the angels think while watching this play out. Some times I wondered what was going through God's mind as He sat there knowing what would happen and the effects that would ripple through time because of it.
In the Chronicles Of The Door series by Gene Edwards, you get to see behind the curtains of heaven during some of the most memorable stories in the Bible. Mr. Edwards gives us a glimpse of what may have been some of the reactions of the ethereal world to the events that play out in the mortal world.
Start with The Beginning and read the other side of Creation and the Fall. The Escape follows when God chose a man and a family and gave an Eternal Promise. As angels fight the powers of darkness, The Birth tells of when God left the realm of the Immortal to walk as a man. Then read as the greatest battle occurs between that of Death and the Lamb of Life in The Triumph. But, that's not the end! The Return tells the end of the story; the Culmination of the plan that was laid out before time began- the Land, the Lamb, the Lineage, and Lucifer all find out their place in Eternity.
Even though these books are part fiction, I got a huge blessing from reading the things that my mind had a hard time conjuring on it's own. If you've ever wanted to understand the heavenly conversations about some of the timelines in the Bible, then reading of these events from Mr. Edward's perspective.

As America Has Done To Israel book review

Have you ever wondered why bad things happen? Not just the crimes that people commit, but the natural disasters that strike around the world? Do you think there's a reason to them?
John P. McTernan has an interesting take on it in his book As America Has Done To Israel.
Mr. McTernan takes the verse from Genesis 12:3- And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.- literally as he looks back through America's history and their treatment of and relationship with the Jews.
There is a ton of historic fact and some wonderful side-by-side comparisons for those who are wondering if God's blessing to Abraham so long ago is still relevant today.

The Life and Diary of David Brainerd book review

By almost every standard known to modern missionary boards, David Brainerd would have been rejected as a missionary candidate. He was tubercular — died of that disease at twenty-nine — and from his youth was frail and sickly. He never finished college, being expelled from Yale for criticizing a professor and for his interest and attendance in meetings of the "New Lights," a religious organization. He was prone to be melancholy and despondent.

Yet this young man, who would have been considered a real risk by any present-day mission board, became a missionary to the American Indians and, in the most real sense, "the pioneer of modern missionary work." Brainerd began his ministry with the Indians in April, 1743, at Kannameek, New York, then ministered in Crossweeksung and Cranberry (near Newark), New Jersey.

Brainerd's first journey to the Forks of the Delaware to reach that ferocious tribe resulted in a miracle of God that preserved his life and revered him among the Indians as a "Prophet of God." Encamped at the outskirts of the Indian settlement, Brainerd planned to enter the Indian community the next morning to preach to them the Gospel of Christ. Unknown to him, his every move was being watched by warriors who had been sent out to kill him. F.W. Boreham recorded the incident:

But when the braves drew closer to Brainerd's tent, they saw the paleface on his knees. And as he prayed, suddenly a rattlesnake slipped to his side, lifted up its ugly head to strike, flicked its forked tongue almost in his face, and then without any apparent reason, glided swiftly away into the brushwood. "The Great Spirit is with the paleface!" the Indians said; and thus they accorded him a prophet's welcome.
That incident in Brainerd's ministry illustrates more than the many Divine interventions of God in his life — it also illustrates the importance and intensity of prayer in Brainerd's life. Believe it — Brainerd prayed!

Brainerd died in 1747 in the home of Jonathan Edwards. His ministry to the Indians was contemporary with Wesley, Whitefield and Edwards as they ministered to the English-speaking people during the period called in English and American history, the "Great Awakening." Brainerd's centuries-spanning influence for revival is positive proof God can and will use any vessel, no matter how fragile and frail, if it is only sold out to souls and the Saviour!

The Life and Diary of David Brainerd ought to be read — and read often — by God's people. It will do something for you spiritually.

Adventures of the Northwoods book review

This series follows a girl named Kate when she moves from Minnesota to Wisconsin after the death of her father, and her mother's remarriage. What mysteries will she encounter? How will she like the people who will become her new friends? Will she fit in to her new home?
It's exciting, and reminiscent of the Little House series, set in the early 1900's, and the history is pretty accurate. It's not full of a ton of romance, but there is some friendship and interest.
This series has some characters that encourage your child in their faith, and show what happens when God answers your prayers- even if it's not in the way you thought it would be.
It is written by Lois Walfrid Johnson and is a great read for boys and girls alike.

Wheat Belly (book review)

Who doesn't like bread?
In our modern American diet, wheat is one of the staples that is in almost every meal. We have breads, cakes, muffins, pastas, cereals, and more in almost every sitting.
But, there are many out there with something called gluten intolerance. They get very sick when they eat bread. Others, can have a sensitivity to it which they aren't even aware of!
Why?
In William Davis book Wheat Belly you will find out that the wheat used to make all of the wonderful things we eat today is not the same wheat from ages past. It answers the question why so many people now-a-days get sick from something that many generations and cultures enjoyed without problem.
If you've ever wondered about these things, I suggest you give this book a read.

The Golden Sceptre book review

After reading Pastor Bob Leib's first book, At His Feet, I was very excited to read his second book.
In his first book, Pastor Leib goes through the story of Ruth, a Gentile woman living in a Jewish world, and uses her life as an example of how the believer should be submissive to the Lord, and the blessings that come along with submission to His will.
His second book, The Golden Sceptre, goes through the only other book in the Holy Bible named after a lady- Esther, a Jewish woman living in a Gentile world. This book deals mainly with the Christian's life in Christ, and his journey through the world having a "different nature". There's a lot of history and prophecy expounded upon in it's pages.
But, that's just the tip of the iceberg.
This book has so many other devotional topics in it that you get an amazing study on some of the deeper things found in the Scriptures- such as Adoption, Eternal Security, The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven, Salvation, the Rapture, and so much more!
Be prepared to be challenged, edified, and some times even amazed by the content contained in this book. Who would have ever though that such a short book of the Bible that doesn't even mention the name of God could have so much hidden within it's story!

The Little Baptist (book review)

The Little Baptist by J. M. Martin is a great book for those who wonder about what makes Baptists different from other Protestant religions. This book mainly deals with the subject of Baptism, but also includes other topics such as kindness to your enemies and salvation.
The Little Baptist, A Young Girl's Look at Plain Truth (full title) is written in story form. This story follows Mellie Brown, a young girl who was given a Bible by her brother as  a present. While reading her Bible, she comes across the story of John baptizing in the Jordan River, and thinks that she must have been given a Baptist Bible, instead of a Methodist one. The reader follows Mellie as she grows into a young lady,  and questions the doctrines that she has been taught with the Scriptures that she is reading daily.
If you have a child, or teenager, that is often questioning why we believe what we believe, or if you are looking for a simple reasoning for one of the corner stones of Baptist doctrine, then this book is for you!

Calvary Publishing

I would normally do a book review here, but I wanted to let everyone know about this publishing company- Calvary Publishing.
Calvary Publishing is a Baptist owned and run business that gets great old books that are no longer in print and re-publishes them. They have a wide range of topics and subject matters to chose from- biography, historical, fiction, and others. Their prices are very good.
They also will publish your books, tracts, prayer cards, postcards, banners, bulletins, bookmarks, and  more for close to cost.
Their sister companies also help those in the ministry:

  • Bearing Precious Seed prints Bibles for Missionaries to give out for free. They print in  many different languages, and will even print a Bibles in a language of your choosing if you can get them an original in the language to copy.
  • Local Church Bible Publishers will print good quality King James Bibles at cost for local churches who want to have Bibles on hand for their members and visitors.
  • And lastly, LBS Pacers (Lansing Baptist School Pacers) is a school that you can send your children to, or use as an umbrella school if you're homeschooling. They'll keep your children's records and provide them with a diploma and transcripts upon graduation. They use the ACE program.

All of these ministries are run out of a local church in Lansing, Michigan called Parker Memorial Baptist Church.  They are an old-fashioned, KJV Bible believing, Baptist Church pastored by Dr. Don Green since 1955.
