Sometimes the devil doesn't tempt us with evil; sometimes he allures us with good, distracts us with obligations, confuses us with compromise, or hinders us with business to keep us from that which is best- service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Remember, the devil always offers his best, before Christ will offer His will for your life.

Surviving The Battle (book review)

This book is written by a man who has served the Lord in the United States and on the mission field. This book is really not for a new Christian, but it will be a blessing to those who are in the ministry or who are thinking of entering the ministry.
Surviving The Battle is a book written by Joe Melvin, who has been through some amazing things. Mr. Melvin was a missionary to Scotland. Though it's not a third world country, it has a very different society. He went through many trials and hardships, and the lessons he learned would be a great benefit to anyone who is trying to serve the Lord.
The book is sectioned off into 3 parts. The first is for Missionaries. It would give you a good idea of what deputation will be like, and what to expect when you enter another country. It also gives a few helpful hints in dealing with other Christians along the journey.
The next part is for pastors and laity. Many times, the church members don't understand that the questions they ask are inappropriate, and even damaging, to a missionary and his family. There is a way to be a blessing to the missionary as he's passing through, and there is also a way to be a hindrance and a burden.
The last part is just a bit of advice from his own personal experience. Think of it as a chance to learn without going thru the hardships. A chance to be a blessing without destroying someone's hope and scarring their family.
You can purchase this book thru the author, Joe Melvin. There is a copy available on Amazon, but you'll have to email me if you want to learn how to obtain a more copies.
