Sometimes the devil doesn't tempt us with evil; sometimes he allures us with good, distracts us with obligations, confuses us with compromise, or hinders us with business to keep us from that which is best- service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Remember, the devil always offers his best, before Christ will offer His will for your life.

The Fall: Part 3

We have learned that Eve was tempted by the serpent and she ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which God told her not to eat.
But where was Adam? The Bible doesn't tell us if Eve was alone when the serpent tempted her. It doesn't tell us if Adam was right beside her ignoring the serpent.
We do know that at some point he shows up and he sees what Eve has done. And Eve offers Adam the fruit.
Genesis 3:6- And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Adam ate the fruit that Eve offered him. But something was different about this sin.
I TImothy 2:13-14- For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
You see, Eve was deceived. That means she didn't really know what exactly she was doing. Satan had really made her believe his lies.
But, the Bible says that Adam was not deceived. Adam knew full well that he was disobeying God! Adam knew that God said they would die if they ate the fruit. Adam knew that if he ate the fruit there would be consequences for his actions. But, what Adam didn't know is what would happen to Eve if he didn't.
You see, Adam loved Eve so much that he didn't want to live without her. God had made Eve so he wouldn't be alone. He knew Eve filled a need in his life. Perhaps Adam was afraid that he would have to live his days alone. We're not sure what Adam was thinking, but we do know that he was willing to die for Eve, rather than live without her. So he ate the fruit knowing that he would die.
James 1:14-15- But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
The spiritual death of man happened. He was no longer perfect. And because he knew he was disobeying God, the guilt of sin came upon mankind. Adam and Eve now knew shame. They weren't ashamed before!
Genesis 3:7-8- And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Sin makes us feel bad inside. Sometimes it makes us grumpy. Sometimes it keeps us from sleeping at night. Sometimes it even makes us feel sick to our tummies. Not only can sin destroy us physically in our bodies, but it can destroy us emotionally inside. It messes with our feelings.
When we know that we've sinned, we just can't feel good until we make it right. But did you know that some things can't be made right. Some hurts can't be undone. And some consequences can't be taken away.
Adam and Eve had to face the consequences of disobeying God.
